There is no permanent base on the moon primarily due to the high cost and technical challenges associated with establishing and maintaining such a base. The harsh lunar environment, including extreme temperatures, radiation, and micrometeoroid impacts, presents significant engineering and logistical hurdles. Additionally, the lack of a compelling economic or scientific rationale for a permanent moon base has limited the investment and political will needed to make it a reality. While there have been discussions and plans for lunar bases, the practical and financial obstacles have so far prevented their establishment. **
